Welcoming the change of season, Vanessa MacDonald encourages us to use this time to re-focus, rejuvenate and revive and allow both body and soul to energise

Spring has been celebrated for centuries as the time of new growth, sowing seeds, spring cleaning and spring rituals. Spring gives us the gift and opportunity of rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection, and all those other re- words that fill me with hope and well realization that the days are getting longer and warmer…Yay! Real possibilities for lasting change feel easier somehow when the sun begins to shine after a long winter’s dark. I’m sure my soul is solar powered.

Most cultures have a ritual or two to celebrate the promise and fertility of spring. In ancient Rome, the lengthening of the day that followed the spring equinox was marked by sacrifices to celebrate the death and rebirth of Attis, the god of vegetation. The Norwegian Goddess Freya,Celtic Goddess Brigid, Flora the Roman Goddess and the Greeks’ Aphrodite were all honored in the Spring as are the Native American Spider woman, Mexico’s Tonantzin and the African goddess Oshun.

I love this time of year when everything comes alive after the winter slumber, new life on the farm, new green shoots on the trees and blossoms blooming. I’ll be planting seeds and seedlings in my garden now and also sowing some seeds for my future endeavors, one of which a physical detox is included.

I am not one to diet as such, but I have on occasion detoxed this here temple of mine and fairly successfully the last time I did it as I did feel extremely re-newed and full of life.

As happens in life though, I can find the things I eliminated during my detox a tad hard to continue resisting when it’s cold.. burrrr! I am human after all, well human with a touch of Goddess! Bridget my middle name is derived from Celtic goddess Brigid J. So my renewed-ness can lose a little luster especially during the winter months where, like my dog and cat for that matter, I feel a winter coat is needed….ahem! well just a little more layer to help me keep warm.

The beautiful spring came; and when Nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also.
Harriet Ann Jacobs

So spring heralds a time for the shedding of my winter coat as it’s a perfect time to re-focus and rejuvenate. Longer walks along the beach for both myself and the dog will help condition both our coats and put a spring in our steps. Cleaning, clearing and cleansing and also refocusing my plans for the summer months looming.

I have a tendency to wish for more fresh food from the garden at this time of year, as we all do naturally; salads and lighter meals are welcome and not just endured like it seems for me when eating salad in winter, ho hum. Spring is the ideal time for detoxification, it will help eliminate the winters accumulated ...extra baggage and there is no better time than when my energy levels start to match the spring flourish and I’m sure to know when I’m done detoxing, for I should have an ‘energetic bounce’ yep that other type of ‘spring’ in my step.

NZ Flower Essences to support me on my cleansing way include De-Tox Support; facilitates purification and releasing. It can help with the release of old habits and the elimination of outworn non regenerative patterns.
