As the last days of spring make way for the long-awaited warm days of summer, Trudi reminds us that there is still time for that all important spring clean

Spring is a season that makes us stop and think. It is the beginning of what we hope will be warmer weather and thoughts of sun, sand, holidays, Christmas and spending time outdoors. Many of us on the family treadmill of life rarely take time out to stop and consider ourselves during this very busy time.  As such you'll not be surprised to discover that most men and women wear only one third of their wardrobes. The same few pieces are rotated each week without much thought. This is until you realise the one top out of the three you always wear REALLY does need to go as it’s falling apart.

Family priorities are always at the top of the list, but there does come a moment when it IS time to think about you, your body and how you feel about yourself. Spring is the season of rebirth and for many it is time to take stock. How you look does matter. It matters because it gives you confidence in your day-to-day life.

There are many misconceptions about dressing well and looking good. Dressing well does not mean being uncomfortable, being dressed up or wearing clothing that is too tight. Looking good is not about spending a lot of money on expensive clothes or taking hours to get ready.

Quite simply it is about colour, shape and fit - getting the simple things right.

Let’s take the humble T-shirt for example:

  • Colour - so simple, yet generally people prefer black or white. It's ‘safe’. However, a great coloured T-shirt looks amazing and can make your skin glow, eyes stand out and your hair look glossy.
  • Shape - do you suit a higher neckline or a lower neckline? Define what is best for you and stick to it.
  • Fit - allow for that shrinkage factor and get the right length.  Make sure it shows you have a waist, so not too big and baggy or too small.

Clear your wardrobe of the ‘deadwood’. Accept and embrace your size for where you are at in this moment. Embrace colour and enjoy the season with spring in your step as well as in the air until summer rolls around.
